| Annual Ball |
May sees the social highlight of the year. This is the Annual Ball which is held in conjunction with University Hall. The Ball is held down town and this year the theme was "Wartime Romance." The attendance is usually about 200 with the majority coming from Everton Hall. Before the Ball the Hall provides yummy platters to nibble on whilst donning their finery. |
| Arrival Day in February |
Arrival Day in February is celebrated with a welcome BBQ for all of the residents and Board members. This is usually followed by flat meetings where consensus is reached about how the flat is going to operate through the year. This is followed by an "O Week" that is more low key than in first year Halls. Events typically include a Scavenger Hunt around the city aimed mainly at residents who had just arrived in Wellington; a DVD night; group dinners for the various buildings to get to know each other; and a Quiz night. |
| Founders’ Day brunch |
May 9 sees the annual Founders’ Day brunch which is held at the James Cook hotel. The purpose of the occasion is to remember those people who had the foresight and perseverance to found the Hall in the 1970s. It is hosted by the Trust Board and all of the residents are invited to attend along with Board members and the Hall staff. Last year two of our residents from Brazil and India entertained us with some Johnny Cash and a saucy number from Brazil. The guest speaker was Prof Peter Barrett, ex-Wellingtonian of the Year, who gave an informative address on "Antarctica and Climate Change". |
| Kiwiana quiz night |
The Kiwiana quiz night is held in July at the start of the second Trimester. It serves in part as our welcome to new residents and the teams are invited to dress up in theme and answer questions about New Zealand. Most teams dress in theme and enjoy the traditional fish and chips meal provided followed by pavlova and ice cream. |
