About Everton
Everton Hall provides self catering accommodation for 189 students who attend Victoria University of Wellington. We accept applications from 2nd year tertiary students and above, or mature first year students, but not normally students coming directly from school.
The Hall was opened in 1976 as the first Hall in New Zealand to be built as self catered, mixed sex accommodation. Three new blocks were added to the Hall in 2001. Everton Hall is administered by the Wellington Presbyterian Methodist Hall of Residence Trust. The day to day management of the Hall was transferred to Campus Living Villages New Zealand Ltd in January 2009.
The six residential blocks, the Commons building and the Head of Hall’s house are all named after important people in the founding and on-going success of the Hall.
The Hall is very conveniently located between the various VUW campuses and five minutes walk to the vibrant heart of the city.
Our Coat of Arms
The close relationship of Everton Hall with the city, church and VUW is signified by our coat of arms.
The blue background with the silver dolphin is a religious symbol of wisdom and understanding; the five round silver plates link with the coat of arms of the “Iron Duke” of Wellington and the city’s coat of arms; and the green and gold wavy lines are Victoria University’s colours and represent the hilly countryside and the gold of gorse and crops.
The motto "Neque verto neque haesito" means "I neither turn nor falter". If you look closely you can see the name of the Hall in the motto.
